First Donation

For a long time I dreamed of this moment, and it’s truly more special than I thought. Seeing the smiles on their faces, I think it’s more of my own reflection of the everlasting impact of being exposed to art from a young age.

I delivered my first art supply donation to an elementary school in Puerto Rico — a quiet, small act that opened a larger door. Watching children unbox brushes, paints, and paper, I saw the immediate, brightening effect of tools placed where imagination already lived. Through my work, I’ve been able to support their creative pursuit: not by dictating outcomes, but by offering materials and a signal that making is valued.

Art practice for me has become a way to serve: artworks funded the supplies, studio time turned into lessons, and the act of giving became a continuity of purpose. The children’s curiosity and willingness to explore reminded me why these gestures matter — they transform possibility into practice. In that classroom, creativity felt less like an extracurricular luxury and more like essential language, a means for young voices to map their world.

This donation is the first of many steps. I am committed to sustaining access to creative tools and moments of guided discovery, so that more children can find, claim, and expand their own visual language. One school done, five hundred and seventy-one left.
